From the Executive Principal
This week I participated in the Highton Middle School Colour Run Celebration, which was great fun. As part of the celebration, students had the chance to vote (via gold coin donation) for the teachers they’d most like to see slimed, with proceeds going to the Christian College Foundation, supporting families in need within our community. The event was organised by our Year 9 prefects.
I think one of the most powerful lessons our students can learn is the importance of stepping forward and taking initiative – as these student leaders did this week. Leadership is not something reserved for titles or positions; it begins when a young person sees an opportunity to make a difference and chooses to act. I believe that these moments of courage and creativity shape not only their school experience but also their future.
When students lead initiatives, whether it is organising a charity drive, launching a sustainability project, or starting a band with friends, they develop confidence and self-belief. They learn that their ideas matter and that their voice can create real change. In the process, they discover the value of collaboration and communication, as leading any initiative requires teamwork, listening, and clear expression. Challenges inevitably arise but overcoming them builds resilience and problem-solving skills that will serve them for life. Most importantly, these experiences nurture empathy and social responsibility, as student-led projects often focus on helping others and strengthening the sense of community.
As a school, we are committed to creating an environment where students feel supported to take these bold steps. Over the next week we will see many of our students take initiative as part of our end-of-year celebration events. I can’t wait to celebrate and nurture these moments of leadership. They are not just preparing students for success in school; they are shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
Some other opportunities for students to step forward and shine this week included a visit by the Bellarine Girl’s Transformation class to Feed Me Geelong to volunteer their time. Year 9 students Ellie and Livvy describe their experience in the Bellarine Campus Vine.
At Highton and Bellarine Campuses, the Year 6’s Market Day was a hit last Friday, and Surf Coast Campus ran their event today. Read the report about Middle School-Highton’s Market Day in their Vine.
At Surf Coast Campus, Year 4s have been busily preparing reports on The Coorong, with its unique flora and fauna, cultural significance, and the special place it holds in Australian storytelling, with many students making connections to Storm Boy. The 4s have been up to plenty of other things as well, which is reported on in the Surf Coast Vine this week.
At Junior School, Preps have been busy exploring the amazing continent of Asia, with one of the highlights being learning about the incredible Bengal tiger – an endangered animal that captured their imagination – one of the activities involved making their own Bengal tiger faces – and what a great job they did!
At Senior School, the Year 10 Drama class visited the Year 5s at Middle School and shared a play and workshop session with them. Their session was inspired by The Lorax, connecting beautifully with the class’s recent exploration of Fast Fashion and their exploration of Trash Puppets…a memorable activity for all involved!
Finally, still with a focus on Senior School – the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony took place this afternoon and it was a privilege to be part of that key milestone in these students’ lives, as they transition from Christian College students to Christian College alumni. We want all of our graduating 12s to know that this will always be your school – whether you have been a CCG student for 13+ years, or a much shorter time than that – you will always belong and are always welcome back. Congratulations to the Class of 2025 as you embark on the next stage of life’s journey!

Preps Explore the Nativity Story
This week our Prep students have been exploring the Nativity story and discovering the true meaning behind why we celebrate Christmas. Through a range of activities, they have been learning about the different parts of this special story. It has been wonderful to see their sense of wonder as they learn about the birth of Jesus and share their own reflections with classmates.
Preps have participated in activities that help them deepen their understanding of the story while also retelling it through play. They have listened to the Nativity read aloud from both the Children’s Bible and a beautifully illustrated pop-up book. They also enjoyed watching the Storybook Bible video of the Nativity and listening to the much-loved Christmas carol Away in a Manger as the story gently played out on screen.
To build on their learning, students completed activities such as working together to assemble a large Nativity jigsaw puzzle, sequencing story pictures, and retelling the story using wooden figures. It has been wonderful to hear the discussions taking place as they explore this meaningful time of year.
We are also excited to share that on the last day of term, during our final Assembly, the Prep students will be performing a short play for the whole school retelling the story of the very first Christmas (more details to come).
This is such a special time of the year, and we are delighted to celebrate the Christmas story alongside our Prep students.
Year 2 – Week 7 Update
It’s been another exciting and productive fortnight in Year 2!
We’ve been diving into the fascinating world of Ancient China in our English lessons. Students have explored topics such as the Great Wall of China, Chinese characters, inventions, and the process of making silk. These lessons have sparked rich discussions and plenty of thoughtful questions, with students making wonderful personal connections to what they’re learning.
We also continued our work on persuasive writing, where students wrote letters to Santa, convincing him why they deserve presents this year!
Our Maths focus has been on additive patterns and multiplication and division. Students have been building their understanding of the relationship between these operations, using hands-on materials and real-life examples to deepen their learning. We’re so proud of the effort and growth they’ve shown in this area!
Students have begun their independent planet project in IDL, researching fascinating facts about their chosen planet. This has been a great opportunity for curiosity and creativity, and we can’t wait to see their completed projects next week.
As Christmas approaches, we’ve started our Christmas Story project in Christian Ed. Students have been learning about the different characters in the story and are now creating posters to showcase their understanding.
A huge well done to all our Year 2 students for their hard work and enthusiasm over the past two weeks— it’s been a lot of fun!
Discovering the Coorong and Preparing for Celebration Evening
Over the past few weeks, Year 4 students have been busy publishing their information reports on the Coorong. Through detailed research and thoughtful writing, they explored the region’s unique flora and fauna, its cultural significance, and its special place in Australian storytelling. Many students made connections to Storm Boy. Their reports highlighted not only the natural beauty of the Coorong but also its importance to local communities and traditions.
In addition to their writing, students have been finalising their “God’s Rescue Plan” PowerPoint presentations. These projects allowed them to combine creativity with deep reflection, presenting their ideas with clarity and confidence.
Excitement is also building as we prepare for our upcoming Celebration Evening. Students have been practising their performance of Something to Be Grateful For, a song that reminds us of the joy found in gratitude and togetherness. The rehearsals have been filled with energy and anticipation, as everyone looks forward to sharing their learning and talents with families and friends.
It has been a season of discovery, creativity, and preparation. One that celebrates both knowledge and community, reminding us of the importance of gratitude and connection in all that we do.
Surf Coast Health and Phys Ed Happenings
Our chilly and wet Term 4 is flying by with all students eagerly participating in their weekly H&PE classes.
Students from Prep to Year 4 are currently focusing on FMS including Kick, Bounce, Punt, Two Hand Strike and AFL Skills.
Students have enjoyed participating in developing their skills, they are able to explain the skill’s components and apply them in minor games such as Boot Ball and Hit & Run.
Our Health unit this term relates to students’ ‘Personal Safety and Wellbeing’ with students covering a variety of safety topics including trusted people, protective behaviours, bullying, friendship, medications and poisonous substances and community, school and classroom safety.
We are looking forward to a brighter and warmer end to the year and a wonderful Sand and Surf Carnival!
Year 7: A Term of Research, Reflection and Presentation
This term, our Year 7 students have been busy honing their research, analytical, and presentation skills across English, Humanities, and Christian Education.
In English, students explored The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba, delving into its themes and connections to the inspiring true story. They worked hard to refine their writing and analytical skills, responding thoughtfully to prompts and culminating in an oral presentation on a chosen topic. Students showed a good depth of understanding as they spoke about the characters, events, and themes within the text.
In Humanities, students tackled real-world challenges by identifying social and environmental issues they feel passionate about. They researched these issues at global, national, and local levels, linking them to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Working collaboratively, students designed surveys, interviewed stakeholders, and analysed data to propose innovative solutions—ranging from products and services to awareness campaigns. It was good to see students asking and responding to questions and demonstrating critical thinking during their final presentations.
In Christian Education, students deepened their understanding of the Bible by investigating one of the gospels in collaborative groups. They presented their summaries to the class, sharing insights and reflections on the text.
It’s been a dynamic and challenging term, and the Year 7s have been curious and determined learners. We are proud of their growth as thinkers, communicators, and collaborators.
From The Chaplain – Seasons Of Advent
Hello all,
As we near the end of the school year, we have the opportunity to celebrate Advent, which is the time of anticipation before Christmas.
Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas marks the start of the Christian liturgical year. It’s a season of anticipation, for both the celebration of Christ’s birth, and also for His return, and the light of the world that Jesus brings. Through the symbolism and visual reminder of candles, Advent encourages us to focus on hope, love, joy, and peace.
Advent wreaths and candles have been traditional ‘learning tools’ for families and communities all over the world for hundreds of years and carry symbolic meaning that draws us into reflection during Advent.
The round and evergreen wreath symbolises the eternal nature of God’s life with us, and each of the purple and pink candles in the wreath represent the hope, love, joy, and peace that comes with Jesus’ birth. The final candle (the Christ candle) in the Advent wreath is white (or sometimes gold), and is reserved for the pure, unblemished baby King Jesus, who represents a whole, healed, and prosperous future for all of us.
Traditionally, the candles of Advent are lit on the first Sunday of each week preceding Christmas, and the Christ candle is lit on Christmas Day. If you choose to participate, it is an amazing time to reflect and rest with your family, and to anticipate Christ’s return together.

Your Cookbook of Family Favourites – Calling for Recipes
Dear Christian College Families,
Our names are Elisha Williams and Willow McInnes, and we are the Middle School-Highton campus Community Building and Outreach Prefects.
We are thrilled to share that we are introducing the Christian College Geelong cookbook, which will be an important fundraiser for the Christian College Foundation. All the proceeds from the cookbook will be donated to the Eternity Fund. By supporting this initiative you will be enabling, empowering, and changing the lives of young people from families who are experiencing hardship.
This will be a hardcover book which will include recipes from families and members of the Christian College Geelong community and will be titled, ‘Our Family Favourites’. If you have a special family recipe that you would like to share, we would love for you to contribute to the book. We encourage our community to contribute one favourite recipe.
If we receive multiple versions of a popular recipe, we may ask for alternatives. We encourage you to share gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options.
Please feel free to upload one or more images to go alongside your recipe. For example, this could be a family photo, colourful drawing/artwork, or photo of the recipe. By uploading a photo, you agree to have your photo published. Please also let us know where you got your inspiration from. Is your recipe based on another food author or published cookbook, or is it a special family recipe? Why do you love this recipe? Please share your story with us. By contributing your recipe to the cookbook, you agree to have your name published, but no personal contact details will be shared.
Please note, you are welcome to contribute recipes until the end of November 2025. The published book will be available at the start of 2026.
If you have a family business and you would like to advertise your business in the cookbook, please contact Tenille McInnes (t.mcinnes@ccg.vic.edu.au). This is a great way to showcase some of the incredible family businesses we have associated with the College.
We encourage all families to pre-order a cookbook today. Your purchase will enable the foundation to manage costs, stock levels, and ensure we deliver a profit. The cost of the cookbook is $39.50, and your donation to the Christian College Eternity Fund will be dollar matched by a very generous, anonymous donor.
On behalf of the Foundation, we sincerely thank you for your support and contribution to this project and know that you are supporting a great cause.
