Learning About our own Continent
This week in Prep, we embarked on an exciting journey to explore the continents that make up our world. Our focus was on Australia, a land rich in natural beauty and cultural landmarks. We delved into the unique features that make Australia special, starting with the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system. The children were fascinated to learn about its vibrant marine life and the importance of preserving this natural wonder.
Next, we turned our attention to Uluru where the kids were captivated by its cultural significance to the Indigenous Australians and its stunning appearance, especially at sunrise and sunset.
To bring our lessons to life, we used maps to locate these landmarks and labelled all the states and territories of Australia. This hands-on activity helped the children visualise where each landmark is situated and understand the geographical layout of the country. The enthusiasm in the classroom was palpable as the kids eagerly participated in labelling and discussing each region.
Overall, the learning was a fantastic success. The children were highly engaged and showed a genuine interest in learning about Australia’s geography and landmarks. Their curiosity and excitement made the lessons enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved.
For the next three weeks at our Surf Coast campus, we would love to see any donations brought to school that we can pass on to Geelong Mums. Each classroom will have a couple of boxes for your child to place the donations in.
Please click on this link to see items that are most needed and appropriate. Please ensure any second-hand items are like new.
There is no expectation placed on any families to donate; this is purely by choice. If you would rather donate cash, please place it in an envelope and hand it to the front office for the attention of Geelong Mums.
This is a wonderful charity and in recent times they have supported more families than ever before. It would be wonderful if we can support them as much as possible, as they help those who need it most.

A Taste of Year 4
It’s been an exciting and action-packed week for our Year 3 students! On Tuesday, Orientation Day gave them a glimpse into the year ahead as they met their 2025 teacher and new classmates. The students enthusiastically joined in “getting-to-know-you” activities and enjoyed a few games, which sparked new friendships and set a wonderful tone for the year to come. Seeing their excitement and openness to new friendships was truly heartwarming, and it’s clear they are ready for all the adventures Year 4 will bring!
As we approach the end of the school year, preparations are in full swing for our Celebration Evening. Year 3 students have been practising their musical item with dedication and enthusiasm. Each class has been rehearsing separately over the past few weeks, but on Wednesday, they came together for their first group rehearsal. The music room was filled with their beautiful voices, and we can’t wait to share their hard work and talent with you all at the Celebration Evening.
With so many special memories made already, we look forward to finishing the year with joy and pride!
The Changing Coastline
The Year 1s took an exciting trip back to the beach this week to check out how the weather has been reshaping our local coastline.
Under a bright, sunny sky, smiles were everywhere as we walked, talked, and explored the amazing changes the wind, rain, and waves have made in such a short time.
And the fun doesn’t stop there! We’re planning another trip in three weeks to see how the beach transforms even more. Next time, we’ll dive deeper into how other factors—like people, animals, and different activities—can also change the look and shape of everything we explore! Stay tuned for our next adventure!
Striking it Rich!
Term 4 in Year 5 is a great term. We get to do so many exciting things. We head off to camp in Ballarat in Week 7. Spending a few days at Sovereign Hill takes our learning to a completely different version of a classroom. This will be a great opportunity for us to get to know each other even better, and we will also get to spend time with the Year 5 students from the Bellarine campus. We have been linking so much of our learning to the early history of Australia and the impact of the Gold Rush on our lives today.
This week we have been working on our Gold Project, aiming to earn enough points to gain our Miner’s Licence, enabling us to go mining for gold!! The competition was huge as we hunted for gold on the goldfields of our school. We weighed the nuggets we found and finding their value in today’s climate and comparing this to the value in the 1850’s
We have also been spending time working on decimals. Today we made the most of the sunshine and took our learning outside. We have such a beautiful school, and it was so nice to be able to move the classroom to our surroundings. We concentrated on comparing decimals, expanding and ordering. This will all come in handy when we start the next part of our Maths project, looking at Financial Maths.
Year 2 Students Master Division Through Engaging Activities
Over the past few weeks, Year 2 students have been diving into the world of division, building a strong foundation in this essential mathematical concept. Their learning journey has been filled with engaging activities designed to make division both fun and understandable.
Recent Focus: Multiplication and Division Turnarounds
This week, the students have been focusing on the relationship between multiplication and division. They practiced multiplication and division turnarounds, which involve reversing the operations to see how they relate.
Writing Related Multiplication Facts
To reinforce their understanding, the students have been writing the related multiplication facts for given division problems. This helps them see the connection between the two operations and strengthens their recall of multiplication tables.
Fact Family Equations
Another key activity has been working with fact family equations. A fact family is a group of related mathematical facts using the same numbers.
By writing these equations, students can see how multiplication and division are interconnected.
Using Fact Families to Solve Division Problems
Finally, the students have been using these fact families to solve division problems. This method allows them to approach division with confidence, knowing they can rely on their understanding of multiplication to find the answers.
Through these activities, Year 2 students are not only learning division but also developing a deeper understanding of how mathematical operations are related. This holistic approach ensures they build a solid mathematical foundation that will support their future learning.
There’s No Planet B
Our Year 4 students have been deeply engaged in their latest unit, There’s No Planet B, which focuses on sustainable living and some of the main environmental factors affecting our Earth today. In the past week, students have explored a range of critical environmental topics and have been working hard to creatively present their findings.
Students had the opportunity to choose from three important topics: Renewable vs Non-renewable Energy, Deforestation, and Sustainable Living. They then used Canva to design informative posters that showcased their researched facts and visual creativity.
The students’ posters were nothing short of impressive. Here are some highlights from their work:
Renewable vs Non-renewable Energy: Students highlighted the importance of renewable energy sources like solar and wind, emphasising their benefits over non-renewable sources such as coal and oil. They also discussed practical ways to save energy at home.
Deforestation: Another group focused on the impacts of deforestation, illustrating the loss of biodiversity and the role of trees in absorbing carbon dioxide. They proposed solutions like supporting sustainable forestry and reducing paper usage.
Sustainable Living: The third topic covered ways to live sustainably, both at home and in the community. Students shared tips on reducing waste, conserving resources, and using eco-friendly products.
The enthusiasm and dedication shown by our Year 4 students in this unit have been truly inspiring. Their posters not only demonstrate their understanding of complex environmental issues but also their commitment to making a difference. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and creativity in promoting sustainable living.
