Preps’ First Week Back

The first week back of Prep for Term 4 was nothing short of spectacular. The sun was shining, setting a perfect backdrop for the return to school. We were amazed by the incredible maturity and how well our kids settled back into the routine. It was heartwarming to see their eagerness to dive straight back into learning.

The week was packed with engaging activities and learning experiences. Our students enjoyed reading and writing, completing numerous tasks with great enthusiasm. In Mathematics, they enjoyed a variety of fun games focused on place value and addition, which made learning both enjoyable and effective.

A standout moment of the week was unpacking the text ‘Spork’. The children were captivated by the story, eagerly discussing its themes, problems, and solutions. Their excitement peaked when they got to create their own Spork crafts, showcasing their creativity and understanding of the story.

We couldn’t be prouder of our students. Their enthusiasm, maturity, and eagerness to learn have set a positive tone for the rest of the term. We look forward to many more weeks of growth and discovery.

Year 1s Reconnect

It’s such a joy to see our Year 1 classes settle back into Term 4 with ease and excitement. Our students have embraced their time together, reconnecting and strengthening friendships since last term. They’ve eagerly shared stories of their holidays, reliving their memories and trying to trick friends with two truths and a lie. We love how they continue to encourage one another as they write and share. Now, as we dive into learning about weather and nature, their curiosity is infectious, as they explore God’s creation on a journey of discovery.

Year 2 Camp: Fun, Collaboration, and Gratitude

This week, Year 2 attended their camp at Angahook Holiday Camp in Aireys Inlet, and it was an experience filled with joy, excitement, and unforgettable memories. The camp’s theme was all about helping others and expressing gratitude for the help we receive.

Day 1: Arrival and Adventure

The adventure began with a scenic walk at the Aireys Inlet Lighthouse, where we were treated to breathtaking views. Upon arriving at the camp, the children were buzzing with excitement as they set up their beds in the cabins and received a warm welcome and briefing from the wonderful staff at Angahook Holiday Camp.

The afternoon was packed with thrilling activities including archery, the giant swing, and a photo treasure hunt. The children also enjoyed informal games of basketball, tag, volleyball, and giant chess, making great use of the available sports equipment. Throughout these activities, the children were encouraged to help each other and work together, fostering a sense of teamwork and support.

Welcome Back, Year 3!

Welcome back to Term 4! It has been wonderful catching up with all the holiday stories and seeing everyone refreshed and ready for an exciting term ahead. Our Year 3 students have already hit the ground running, diving into their work with enthusiasm.

In English, we’re preparing to write narratives inspired by The Velveteen Rabbit, and the students are buzzing with creative ideas. In Geography, we’ve kicked off a new unit focused on Australia, and the students are eager to share what they know about our country’s natural and manmade wonders while learning more about our neighbouring countries.

In Maths, we’ve started another unit on measurement, exploring mass. The Year 3 students are learning about grams and kilograms and how to convert between them. They are honing their skills by reading analogue scales and calculating increments.

Next week, we celebrate the incredible musical talents in our school at the Annual Music Evening. We hope to see you there!

Water and Dinosaurs

Did you know that the amount of water on Earth has remained constant for millions of years? This means that the water we drink today is the same water that dinosaurs drank! This fascinating fact is due to the continuous movement of water through the water cycle, a process that has been occurring for eons.

Recently, the Year 4 students have been diving into the wonders of the water cycle and cloud formations. They have been turning on their science brains to explore and understand this essential natural process. The students have identified and studied the main stages of the water cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. They have also researched and sketched various types of clouds, such as cumulus, stratus, and cirrus clouds.

To showcase their newfound knowledge, the students have been working on creating detailed collage posters. Each poster illustrates the stages of the water cycle, with each stage clearly labelled and described. These posters not only highlight the students’ understanding but also their creativity and ability to communicate scientific concepts visually.

Kicking off Term 4 on a Positive Note!

As we jump into Term 4, our students are ready to tackle exciting new challenges. This term, we will explore how businesses operate and delve into sustainable practices. The students will take on the role of budding entrepreneurs, developing pitches for their very own sustainable businesses.

Throughout the term, they’ll conduct market research, brainstorm innovative ideas, and create products based on their findings. All their hard work will culminate in a Market Day, where the students will set up stalls to sell their products and raise money for charity. It’s a great way to combine business learning with making a positive impact on the community.

In order to ensure that our businesses remain sustainable, we may ask for some donations of everyday items e.g. empty jars, cardboard boxes etc. Stay tuned for what materials are required!

Festival Indonesia Brings a Taste of Eastern Indonesia to CCG

On Friday, 11th October, our Year 6 students from Surf Coast Campus, Bellarine Campus, and Highton Campus embarked on an enriching cultural excursion, immersing themselves in the vibrant traditions of Eastern Indonesia. Held at the Middle School Chapel, this event provided a unique opportunity for students to engage with the diverse culture of Indonesia through music, dance, and storytelling.

The day began with a storytelling session by a character called Sampari, focusing on an Indonesian native animal from Papua Island called the Cendrawasih (the Indonesian word for peacock). This session connected to what students had been exploring in their Term 3 project. Following this, there was a captivating traditional Indonesian dance performance that mesmerised the students and set the tone for the festivities. The talented band Nogei from Eastern Indonesia then took the stage, sharing traditional Papuan music and weaving cultural stories through it.

Another highlight of the event was an engaging rap performance by the Indonesian rapper President Tidore. The interactive nature of the performance allowed students to learn about an Indonesian bamboo instrument called the Angklung. While the rapper performed, students played the Angklung in the background, creating a harmonious musical experience. This hands-on activity fostered teamwork and creativity as students collaborated to produce beautiful melodies.

A new Strategic Plan for our College

On Monday this week I had the pleasure of sharing Christian College's new Strategic Plan with College staff, following the Term 4 Commencement Service. This included a video presentation, which, on behalf of the College Board, I’d like to also share here with parents, guardians and all others who make up our vibrant College community. Click here to view the video.

This Strategic Plan forms an important piece of continuity for us at this time of transition as a school. The Board, assisted by the Executive, have considered carefully the elements of our school that we believe are essential to us thriving as a College into the future, and have developed four strategic pillars, or key focus areas for us to develop and grow in as we move forward:

  • Christ-centredness
  • Learning for life
  • Stewardship
  • Community
