BLP Clubs
As the term comes to an end so does our first rotation of Building Learning Power (BLP) clubs for the year. This term the children have had a wonderful time taking part in the different BLP clubs on offer. The Tinker Time Club created the most amazing projects from bird houses to dog kennels. The Coding Club loved designing pathways for the BeeBots to travel through. The Craft Club designed and created the first initial of their name. The Dance Club have been learning a dance that they will perform at un upcoming lunchtime assembly. The Veggie Garden Club have planted the winter crop and are tending to the plants that are already growing. The Gravitrax and Lego Club have created the most amazing constructions and the Games club have learnt how to play many new board games together. At the start of next term our children will choose a new club, which they will be a part of for Term 3.
When I Grow Up!
As we are nearing the end of our Term 2 Integrated Studies topic of history, the Surf Coast Preps were given the opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful learning they’ve experienced.
This week, the Preps focused on the past, the present and inquired into the idea of what they would like to be when they grow up.
Through dress up and role play, the students acted out their dream occupation and explained what their dream job is, what it would entail and why they have chosen it.
The Preps then shared their learning by creating a poster where they drew and wrote about their future self!
Here are a few quotes from our incredible Preppies:
“When I grow up, I want to be a builder just like my dad.” –Jack Prep J
“When I grow up, I want to be a piolet because I like to fly.” -Harrison Prep T
“When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut so I can meet an alien!” -Marlon Prep J
“When I grow up, I want to be a ballerina because I like dancing.” -Nora Prep T
“When I grow up, I want to be an archaeologist because I like dinosaurs.” -Jensen Prep T
“When I grow up, I want to be a police officer because they help people.” -Jet Prep T
“When I grow up, I want to be an artist because I like painting.” -Remy Prep J
“When I grow up, I want to be a dancer because I love hip hop.” -Sierra Prep T
“When I grow up, I want to be a Police officer because I can look after people”-Indigo Prep J
Torquay – Then and Now
We have been having an amazing time in Year 1 recreating Torquay! We have split into groups and created the Torquay we see today, and the Torquay of ‘back then’. Year 1 have focused on the incredible differences that have occurred over time. On our Surf Coast walk, we were able to discover all the historical landmarks of Torquay and compare them to what they are today. Using our creative skills, we have created a 3D model of both versions of Torquay. We ae very much looking forward to presenting our model to the Torquay Historical Society next week! We will be putting on a delicious morning tea that will see us practising our well-tuned skills in the kitchen when we partake in historical cooking! What an amazing effort from everyone this term to make Integrated Studies so interactive and exciting!
Year 2 Geography
This term in Geography the Year 2 students have been learning about continents, oceans and Australia’s place on Earth. Their latest endeavour has been an investigation into our local area including the path we took along the Great Ocean Road from Torquay to Aireys Inlet to our camp at Angahook.
The students have been exploring mapping, location and direction in maths and this has tied in well with their Integrated Studies project where they have been annotating a map of the Surf Coast and researching the meaning and origins of our local town names. The students have enjoyed learning that many of our coastal towns take their names from British seaside villages, early European settlers, and others are inspired by Indigenous names of flora and fauna.
Many of the Year Two students have been excited to play ‘Globle’ as a class where the aim is to guess a mystery country of the day. Using their newfound understanding of Earth’s continents together with their location and directional knowledge, they have proved to be quite the sleuths!
Year 3
It is incredibly hard to believe that we are in the second last week of Term 2 already! Scarily this means that we’re halfway through the year! As well as being a short term, it has been quite a disrupted term with almost everyone in the class being off for a week with COVID.
Thank you to all of the Year 3 parents who made the time to attend the celebration of learning conferences this week. It was funny to see how nervous all of the kids were but how proud they were to show you what they had been learning in year three so far.
In English, students have begun to study poetry and I am pleased to say that there are some very creative budding poets among us!
In Maths we have started to look at fractions by identifying some common and equivalent fractions.
With Reconciliation Week last week, we have continued to investigate Australia’s identity by researching some of the nation’s flags and symbols.
On Friday some of the Year 3 musicians travelled to Bellarine to take part in the Junior Strings combined rehearsal. Keep an eye out for that report in next week’s Vine.
Christian Ed has been focused around 2 big concepts – Who is Jesus? and God’s Promises.
Finally, thank you again for you hard work and support this term. Lots more to come in the next semester so as always, keep an eye on The Vine.

National Collection of Data on Students With Disabilities
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). With data collected on the first Friday in August (this year, on the 5th), the NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD Guidelines (2021).
Please see the attached NCCD Fact Sheet for more information.
