Introducing the Parents & Families Program  

I am delighted to share an exciting new initiative with you this week. We are launching the Christian College Geelong Parents & Families (P&F) Program. At the heart of every thriving school is a strong, connected community. The P&F Program is all about connection, strengthening relationships, nurturing a genuine sense of belonging, and creating meaningful ways for families to engage in College life. We know that when schools and families work in partnership, our students benefit most, and this initiative is an important step in strengthening those connections. 

Our vision for the P&F is to create a welcoming space where families in our school community can come together to support our students, contribute ideas, and build lasting relationships. Whether through organising events, lending a hand with school activities, supporting fundraising initiatives, volunteering on camps and excursions or simply connecting with other families, the P&F will play a vital role in enriching the life of our school. The P&F is open to all families with children from Kindergarten through to the senior years, and membership will continue throughout your child’s journey at the College. Please follow this link to find out more or register to get involved. 

We will also be hosting an information session about the P&F for families from any of our campuses who wish to get involved or find out more.  To support the planning for this event, please register your attendance. The information session will be held in Week 1 of Term 3 on Thursday July 16 at 1.30pm in the Chapel at the Belmont (Junior School) Campus We will make sure that we finish in time for everyone to pick up their children at their respective campuses that afternoon.

Year 1

What a wonderful week of learning we have had in Year 1!

This week, students have been busy researching chameleons as part of our Information Report unit in Literacy. They have explored interesting facts about where chameleons live, what they eat, their unique features and how they survive in their habitats. Students have been learning how to organise their information into sections and write clear factual sentences. We are very proud of the effort they have been putting in.

In Christian Education, we have been learning about the Parable of the Feeding of the 5,000. Through discussions, storytelling and crafting activities, students explored how Jesus showed compassion, generosity, and care for others. We talked about the importance of sharing what we have and trusting in God’s provision. They loved making connections between the story and ways they can show kindness and generosity in their own lives.

It has been a fantastic two weeks filled with curiosity, learning, and thoughtful social interactions. We look forward to continuing our learning journey together as we move into the last few weeks of Term 2.

Year 3

We are fast approaching the end of Term 2. We have been so proud of the effort and hard work shown by the Year 3s in the past few weeks as we have completed a range of assessment tasks and learning on new topics.

One exciting part of our term has been visiting the children up the hill at Butterfield House. Each week a small group of students from 3J and 3T visit the kindergarten, with Aaron the chaplain. All students have an opportunity to play and enjoy the company of the kinder kids as they prepare to join us next year. The smiles and fun they all share together is wonderful for all involved.

As we begin to wrap up our Ancient Greece unit, we were privileged to welcome Rachel, one of our student’s parents to teach us Greek dancing. We saw some wonderful Greek artefacts that she kindly shared and then the highlight of the morning was learning and trying to keep up with the fast-paced Zorba dance. Students had a great time, thank you Rachel!

Wildlife Incursion Brings Science to Life for Year 5

Our Year 5 students had an unforgettable hands-on learning experience this week with a “Wildlife Exposure” incursion, perfectly timed to support our Science unit on animal adaptations.

The students were captivated as they met a fascinating range of creatures, including snakes, lizards, possums, owls, and frogs. They didn’t just observe from a distance—they had the incredible opportunity to gently hold and touch many of the animals while learning fascinating facts from the wildlife presenter.

This incursion brought classroom learning to life. Students could see firsthand how a snake’s smooth scales aid movement, how an owl’s feathers enable silent flight, and how a possum’s opposable thumbs help it grip branches. They observed how lizards use camouflage and how frogs’ sticky tongues are adapted for catching prey.

The excitement and curiosity on display were wonderful to see. Thank you to the wildlife team for a memorable experience that deepened our students’ understanding of how adaptations help animals survive in their environments.

Celebrating Growth, Resilience and Reflection Across Our Campus

Our Year 7s have continued to shine over the past fortnight, beginning with a fantastic effort at the GISSA Cross Country event. Students represented our school with enthusiasm and determination as they competed against a range of local schools. A special congratulations goes to Ruby, who placed third overall and now progresses to the next round, an achievement the whole cohort is proud of.

Last week we also recognised Reconciliation Week, taking time each morning in homeroom to learn, reflect and deepen our understanding. Through videos, discussions and hands‑on activities, students engaged thoughtfully with the themes of reconciliation and showed genuine curiosity and respect.

Amidst all of this, students have also been navigating a stretch of assessments across their subjects. While it’s certainly been a full timetable, they’ve approached the challenge with positivity, focus and a great sense of humour, supporting one another and celebrating small wins along the way.

It’s been a busy but rewarding fortnight, and we’re looking forward to carrying this energy into the weeks ahead.

Indonesian Dance Workshop

On Monday, all Year 8 Indonesian students from across our three campuses were invited to attend a special Indonesian dance performance and workshop with the Widya Luvtari Indonesian Dance Group that took place in MS Highton. Students began the session by watching a vibrant and engaging performance by the dancers, before being divided into two workshop groups. During the workshops, students learned and practised the Indang dance from West Sumatra, as well as the Kecak and Janger dances from Bali.

The day concluded with all students performing their dances in front of the Year 7 Highton students, Year 9 Indonesian students and a number of staff. It was wonderful to see the students participate with enthusiasm, confidence and enjoyment. Experiences like this are an important part of language learning, as they allow students to engage not only with Indonesian words and grammar, but also with the rich cultural traditions, vibrant costume, music, movement and stories behind the language. Through cultural immersion, students develop a deeper appreciation of Indonesia and strengthen their understanding of how language and culture are closely connected.

P.E. Happenings

Our Prep – Year 4 students are continuing to enjoy their PE sessions with enthusiasm even though our weather conditions have turned. Development of our Fundamental Motor Skills remains our key focus, however we have also been spending time preparing for our House Athletics Carnival, this coming Thursday.

Preps are focusing on ‘Catch’, Year 1 students are refining their Underhand throw and being introduced into ‘Overhand throw’, Year 2s students are working on their ‘Forehand strike’, Year 3s are focusing on ‘Overhand Throw’ and our Year 4 students are enjoying a unit on Basketball while developing their passing and dribbling skills.

Students take part in discussion and specific skill instruction, and during this time, each skill is broken down into components to focus on. Activities are undertaken in partner or small group settings and often a whole class activity is introduced to implement these skills within a game setting.

Senior School Pathways – VCE and VCE VM Online Information Session 

CCG Senior Campus warmly invites Year 9 and 10 students and their families to attend an upcoming online information session: Senior School Pathways – VCE and VCE VM, to be held on Wednesday, June 17 at 6:00pm. 

This informative session will outline the range of pathways available to students in their senior years at CCG. These include the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), and Vocational Education and Training (VET) options. Families will gain valuable insights to support informed decision-making about future study directions.

Calling all Coding Wizards

Are you ready to unlock your inner tech wizard? 🧙‍♂️✨ We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Raspberry Pi Foundation Coding Challenge, open to all students with a knowledge of coding. 

What is it?

The Raspberry Pi Foundation Coding Challenge is an international competition where students will tackle fun programming puzzles using their coding and algorithmic thinking skills. The coding challenge requires students to have a working knowledge of Turtle Blocky, Python, C#, Java or VB. More information can be found at https://www.bebras.uk

Academic Excellence and Music Excellence Scholarships – Applications Open!

Applications are now open for Academic Excellence Scholarships – for entry to Years 5 to 11 in 2028.

Any interested parents, guardians and families with children in Years 3 to 9 in 2026 are welcome to apply, including families who have children currently enrolled at Christian College.

Applications for Academic Excellence scholarships close on August 6.

Also open to both Christian College families, and families with children in other schools, are our Music Excellence Scholarships. These are open for students entering Years 5 to 12 in 2027 or 2028.
