From the Executive Principal
This week our campus communities came alive with wonderful interactions between our families, students and staff.
At each of our three Middle School Campuses (Bellarine, Highton and Surf Coast) we held “Discover Year 7 and Beyond” evenings, for our current and prospective families, to find out about the secondary years at Christian College. The rooms were packed (in fact we had to add extra chairs) and parents, carers and young people were eagerly looking around at all the displays and talking late into the night with staff and students about the Christian College secondary journey.
During the formal part of the evenings, it was wonderful to hear some of our Year 7 to 9 students talk about their transition from the primary to secondary years at Christian College. We were also privileged to have some Senior School students from Years 10 – 12 visit our Middle School campuses to talk about their experiences in the last three years of their educational journey at CCG. Staff also discussed our Teaching & Learning, Wellbeing & Pastoral Care, Learning Support & Academic Extension programs, and the variety of opportunities available to our students in Years 7 to 12.
The student voices were definitely the highlight of each of these evenings. I heard words like welcoming, known, care, community, opportunity, growth, challenge, character, creativity, confidence, experience, compassion, leadership and belonging. Hearing our students talk so confidently about the impact that a Christian College education is having on them was such a joy. I realised anew what a wonderful community this is, one where students can be challenged and supported, personally known and given a world of opportunities, whilst they are being prepared for great career pathways and shaped to become great human beings. We truly are a school of the and, not the either or.
Meanwhile, our early years and primary school classrooms from Kinder to Year 6 were abuzz with Mothers’ Day activities. It was wonderful to see mothers and special friends visit our campuses for morning teas, pamper afternoons or special assemblies where our students could celebrate the special place that their mums or grandmas play in their lives. At the Middle School Year 5&6 Mothers’ Day assembly, it was fantastic to hear our Year 6s speak so confidently and meaningfully about what the celebration of the part that mothers and others play in our lives, means to them. It is in moments like these that we can really see how home-school partnerships are flourishing.
To all the mums, grandmas, aunties and women who are special in the lives of the children in our community, may God bless you this Mothers’ Day. Thank you for being part of our community.
Mothers’ Day
It was our pleasure this week to host our Surf Coast mums at our annual Mothers’ Day pamper afternoon. The mums and their children enjoyed afternoon tea together and then an opportunity to visit the classrooms and take part in craft activities. In addition to the craft activities both mum and their children had the opportunity to guess the baby teacher. On Friday the annual Mothers’ Day stall was a hive of activity, with the children perusing the many gifts with the hope to choose just the right one for their mum. We hope and pray our mums have the most wonderful Mothers’ Day and God richly blesses them.

Fun Learning and Special Activities in Year 1
Over the past couple of weeks, our Year 1 students have been very busy with lots of fun learning and special activities. One of our main and most exciting topics have been animals and their habitats. We have been learning about animals like wombats and moles, and how they use burrows as safe homes. We talked about why burrows are important for protection, warmth and safety from predators. They also explored the basic things all living things need to survive, such as food, water, air, and shelter. They enjoyed sharing their ideas and comparing what animals need to what people need too.
We also spent time learning about ANZAC Day. The students loved dressing up and helping bring this important day to life. They learned about the soldiers who served our country and why we remember them each year. Through stories, class discussions, and creative activities, the children showed great respect and understanding.
With Mothers’ Day coming up, there has also been lots of excitement in the classroom. The students have been busy making special gifts and keepsakes for their mums and important mother figures in their lives. They loved creating something meaningful and talking about all the reasons they love their mums so much.
Year 3 Camp at YMCA Wyuna, Queenscliff
Our Year 3 students recently returned from an exciting and memorable camp at YMCA Camp Wyuna in Queenscliff. From the moment they arrived, students embraced the opportunity to learn, explore and challenge themselves in a beautiful coastal setting.
Throughout the camp, students participated in a range of engaging outdoor activities that encouraged teamwork, resilience and confidence. We were so thankful for beautiful weather.
Activities included problem‑solving challenges, adventure games and group initiatives that required cooperation and communication. Many students stepped outside their comfort zones and also made new friends with Bellarine students.
Camp also provided valuable opportunities for students to build their independence through managing their belongings, staying away for two nights and being part of duty groups.
We were incredibly proud of the positive behaviour, enthusiasm and responsibility shown by students. A very special thank you to the fantastic staff at Camp Wyuna and to our staff members for providing such a safe, supportive and enjoyable experience as well as giving their time away from their own families.
The Year 3 camp was a wonderful adventure and a highlight of the year for many students!
Natural Disasters
This week in Year 5, our classroom transformed into a newsroom as students explored the powerful world of natural disasters! As part of our writing focus, students developed their summarising skills by researching floods and turning their learning into engaging information reports.
Students investigated how floods occur, the impacts they can have on communities and the environment, and the ways people can stay safe during extreme weather events. They then worked hard to summarise key information clearly and effectively in their own writing pieces.
To bring their work to life, students also became digital designers using Canva and Adobe Firefly to create eye-catching and unique backgrounds inspired by natural disasters. Their creativity and effort truly shone through, with each piece showcasing both informative writing and impressive visual design skills.
The finished projects look fantastic and are now proudly on display in the Year 5 area. Be sure to stop by and check out the amazing work our young journalists and designers have created!
Medals, Milestones and Momentum in Year 7
Over the last fortnight week we celebrated our Year 7 students during our Middle School assembly, recognising outstanding achievements from the recent house swimming carnival with medal presentations and acknowledging emerging leaders in roles such as flag monitors. Our school captains visited us from Senior School and added some excitement to the assembly with a live science experiment that had the whole cohort captivated. We also kicked off our first round of interschool sport, including our very first home‑turf soccer match. An exciting milestone for our campus! In the classroom, students began exploring algebra in Maths and delved into the world of Ancient Greece in Humanities, building strong foundations for the term ahead.
String and Steps in Year 2 Music and Performing Art
2J have begun their String Odyssey, learning the violin, viola, or cello during their weekly Music and Performing Arts lesson. The students are highly engaged, eagerly working to master posture, playing position and pizzicato, and are especially motivated by the exciting prospect of earning their “bow licence”! It has been wonderful to see how quickly they are becoming confident in holding their instruments correctly and finding the right strings to play. 2T will begin their String Odyssey in Term 3.
In their second lesson each week, students have been exploring storytelling through dance. After watching a short documentary about turtles and listening to the beautiful Kasa Kab, by Torres Strait Islander composer, choreographer and cultural consultant Peggy Misi, students have been using movement to tell the life story of turtles. It has been a joy to see their creativity and expression come to life.
Our College ensembles are also preparing for a series of upcoming performances, with Strings and Band Nights taking place next week—an exciting time for our young musicians!
Library Open After School Tuesdays
As of Term 2, our school library is open after school until 4:00pm for families to spend time together. Students and families are welcome to visit the space and to read, browse, borrow and play.
Reading together at home is one of the most valuable ways to support your child’s learning and foster a lifelong love of books. Visiting the library together can be a wonderful way to share in your child’s reading interests and to discover books you may enjoy together at home. If you’re not sure where to start, Library staff love the challenge of finding the just-right book for you to enjoy.
We look forward to welcoming you after school.
