From the Executive Principal
As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to sincerely thank our families for your ongoing support, partnership and trust. Together, we have shared a term filled with learning, growth and care for our students. Your encouragement at home, engagement with school life and ongoing collaboration with our staff make a meaningful difference to the wellbeing and success of every child. Our staff have also worked with great dedication and professionalism this term, and we are grateful for the way our whole community continues to work together with a shared commitment to excellence, care and service.
Over the recent weeks it has been wonderful to see the many signs and celebrations of Easter across our campuses. Our students have joyfully participated in Easter bonnet parades, Easter services and classroom activities that have helped bring this important season to life. We have also been proud of the way our students have reached beyond the school gates, visiting local businesses to share Easter cards and Easter eggs as a way of blessing and thanking those in our wider community. These moments reflect our Christian values in action, sharing hope, kindness and generosity, and providing meaningful opportunities for students to live out their faith.
As we enter the Easter holidays, we are reminded of the true heart of Easter: the hope found in Christ’s sacrificial love, His death and resurrection, and the promise of new life. It is a message of grace, renewal and hope that sits at the centre of who we are as a Christian community. We wish all our families a safe, joyful and refreshing holiday break. We hope this time together provides opportunities to rest, reconnect and enjoy special moments with loved ones
I would also like to acknowledge the many staff members who continue working behind the scenes during the holidays. Their ongoing commitment ensures our school continues to run smoothly, and their efforts are deeply appreciated.
Apart from Easter celebrations and sports carnivals, this week I also had the pleasure of attending the Top Class Music and Sound 2026 Showcase in Melbourne as part of the VCE Season of Excellence, alongside our Year 10, 11 and 12 music students. We are incredibly proud of Year 12 student Felix, who was selected as one of only a small number of students from across the state to perform at this event. This is a significant achievement and a wonderful recognition of Felix’s talent, dedication and hard work, as well as the guidance of his music teachers. Please join me in congratulating Felix on an outstanding performance.
Thank you once again for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to welcoming students back for Term 2 on Tuesday April 21.
Celebrating Success in Term 1
This term, Senior School staff were invited to nominate students who they believed had demonstrated ‘success’ in one or more of the following areas:
- Academic Achievement
- Character
- Service to the Community and/or Environment
The response was extraordinary. More than 300 nominations were submitted, each highlighting moments where students at our Senior Campus embodied excellence, integrity, and commitment. Nominations were shared with students as part of our Week 10 year level assemblies.
Staff shared stories about our students that captured the heart of our community, including:
- “Unwaveringly kind, respectful and caring of staff and students, always going out of her way to affirm or assist in the most selfless of ways.”
- “A model of respect for others, generous in sharing responses in class.”
- “Facing studies head‑on through adversity.”
- “Consistently seeking to improve his understanding in maths, including asking questions in class and attending help sessions to refine his understanding.”
These examples remind us that success is not defined by a single measure. It is found in perseverance, kindness, curiosity, and the willingness to grow.
In his book Legacy (2013), James Kerr writes that “collective character is vital to success.” This has certainly been evident across our Senior Campus throughout Term 1. The achievements we celebrate today are the result of shared efforts — students, staff, and families working together to build a culture where every young person is encouraged to strive, reflect, and flourish.
This growth in character and achievement has been supported by several key strategies, including (but not limited to):
- The Student Organiser, helping students manage study, homework, and deadlines with greater independence.
- Weekly year‑level assemblies, focusing on forward planning, wellbeing, and making the most of learning opportunities.
- House services, where students gather in faith and community to reflect on the word of God.
- College Prefect leadership, including House events and initiatives that strengthen connection and school spirit.
- Clear work expectations included in Unit Cover Sheets for all VCE studies.
- Timely and constructive feedback on Compass, enabling students to track their progress and develop goals that guide their next steps.
Term 1 has shown us what is possible when a community commits to shared values and consistent effort. We celebrate not only the achievements themselves, but the habits, attitudes, and relationships that made them possible.
And as we look ahead, we do so with confidence — knowing that the foundations built this term will continue to support our students in the months to come.

Happy Easter, Senior School!
In the lead-up to Easter Sunday, Senior School staff gathered early on Monday morning for a short reflection service centred on the Greening of the Cross, a meaningful Christian tradition that symbolises the movement from Good Friday to Easter Sunday.
At the beginning of the service, a simple wooden cross stood bare, representing the suffering and sacrifice remembered at Easter. Staff were invited to place flowers and greenery onto the cross, gradually transforming it into a vibrant symbol of life, hope and resurrection.
The reflection focused on the words of Jesus in John 15:5–13: “I am the vine; you are the branches.” Staff were encouraged to reflect on the idea of abiding—remaining connected to Christ as the source of life, strength and renewal.
As the cross slowly filled with greenery and flowers brought from staff gardens, it became a powerful visual reminder of the Easter story. What began as a bare cross was transformed into something full of life and beauty, reflecting the Christian belief that through Jesus’ sacrificial love and resurrection, death is overcome and new life begins.
The service also provided an opportunity for staff to pause at the beginning of the final week after a busy term, taking a moment to reflect together on the significance of Easter and reconnect with the heart of the school’s Christian faith.
As students and families prepare for the Easter break, this quiet moment of reflection reminded staff of the deeper meaning behind the season: hope, renewal and new life.
For students, the Senior School community will gather this Thursday morning in the Middle School SAC for our Easter Service. Faith Prefects Mia P. and William W. have been instrumental in helping plan the service, particularly the inclusion of hot cross buns as part of the reflection.
My prayer for you and your family this Easter season is that you would be reminded of the depth of Jesus’ love for you. As Jesus teaches in John 15:5, abiding in Him—like a branch connected to the vine—is the true and lasting way to be sustained.
As you enjoy the Easter break—with hot cross buns, lamb roasts, camping trips, and chocolate eggs—may it also be a time to pause and remember the hope and new life that Easter brings.
May this Easter be a time of rest, renewal and joy for you and your family, as we remember the incredible love shown through the cross and the life we are offered through the resurrection.
Year 10 Drama Ensemble Performance – Friendship
This term, the Year 10 Drama students have been immersed in the dramatic storytelling unit, exploring all of the different ways we tell stories and communicate meaning. Last week, the students presented their ensemble performance on Friendship for a class of Year 7 students at the Middle School-Highton campus. Drawing inspiration from their own real life experiences, students worked collaboratively to transform personal stories and contributions into a performance that would be relevant and empowering for their audience.
Throughout the process, students developed their ensemble skills, learning how to listen, negotiate ideas while relying on trust and teamwork. They also developed a deeper understanding of how theatre communicates meaning, with intentional use of their performance skills and conventions, their work can have a lasting impact on their audience and the power to inspire change.
Drawing on their learnings of styles explored such as Epic Theatre, they applied various conventions with the intention of provoking emotion and encouraging reflection. It was wonderful to see these young people take bold creative risks in both the devising process and performance, taking their learning beyond the drama space and into their school community!
Felix R. – An Outstanding Performance at Top Class Music!
Senior School Music Classes attend VCE Season of Excellence
On Tuesday March 31, students enrolled in a Classroom Music study at Senior campus travelled to the Melbourne Recital centre to attend the 2026 Season of Excellence ‘Top Class Music’ concert (along with several music staff and Dr Mathilda Joubert.) After a lovely afternoon in the sunshine outside the recital centre, they were treated to absolutely thrilling performances by some of the best performers of the 2025 VCE & VET Units 3 and 4 Music cohort. Works presented at this concert covered a range of styles, including Jazz, Indian classical, Rock, Blues, Musical Theatre and singer-songwriter, among others. Several original compositions and re-imagined arrangements were also featured. Students and teachers alike encountered rich learning opportunities from this event that related to stage craft, performance technique, inspiration for song re-imagining and arranging, and professionalism in performance.
At the concert, Year 12 student Felix R. had the honour of performing Abie by the Avishai Cohen Trio. This piece formed part of his 2025 Music Contemporary Performance exam and was selected specifically by adjudicators for this concert. The MC described the performance of Abie as having excellent control of instrumental techniques and articulation, outstanding phrasing & musicianship, a fine sense of cohesion and rhythmic lock-in with the ensemble, and an effective exploration of tone colour and range. Felix absolutely delivered in all these criteria and gave an outstanding performance to a sold-out recital centre audience made up of many schools from across the state.
To be selected to perform at Top Class is a significant achievement – one that comes about through nomination by the VCAA external examiners at the final performance exams. As an established musician, Felix has been recognised for his excellent musicianship and skill. In 2025 he played over 40 professional shows in addition to his participation in the CCG Senior Stage band, Senior Strings ensemble, and winning the CCG Outstanding Musician award. Felix is becoming recognised as a professional musician and can be proud of his achievements. Please enjoy the video of his performance at the recital centre.
We are excited by the inspiration and learnings that this excursion has provided for our current music students and look forward to their musical and creative work throughout the year.
Year 12 Art Making Exhibiting Excursion to Top Arts
Folio Viewing:
2025 AME folios were on display for viewing, to demonstrate different ways of covering the VCAA SAT criteria, throughout the folio production.
The folio-viewing session provided students to look through the selected folios from the Top Arts exhibition, showing varying approaches to meeting the set VCAA Criteria for the SAT folio. Each of the 10 criteria are graded out of 10 marks. Students progressively work through developing their Artwork(s) by documenting the process.
This process is assessed according to the VCAA Criteria sheets and are marked throughout the year according to mini-deadlines.
We visited The Buxton Contemporary Gallery to view Hany Armonious’s ‘Stone Soup’ sculptural exhibition. This is one of the VCAA Galleries on the 2026 Exhibitions list to visit, which relates to the VCAA Final examination to be held in October 2026.
Of course, we needed a sugar-fix after a busy day of visiting galleries, before returning to Waurn Ponds on the train.

Hot Cross Buns to Handel!
This week 25 young musicians from all five campuses of the Christian College Music Program gathered in the RW Gibson Music Performance Centre (Senior Campus) to showcase their talent and hard work at the Cross-Campus Brass Evening. Families and friends enjoyed a celebration of sound from instruments high and low including the Tuba, Euphonium, Trombone, French Horn and Trumpet.
Brass students ranging from Prep to Year 12 performed solos and duets accompanied by Regina Thomae, Tammy Treloar and Brad Treloar. Their repertoire featured music from AMEB Preliminary to Grade 8 and VCE Music Unit 4 (beginner to advanced level), highlighting the breadth of tuition available from the talented brass staff at CCG. Currently 62 students are learning a brass instrument in CCG’s Instrumental Music Program.
Our brass teachers Sean Rankin, Rob Moffatt and Andrew Dunlop (Director of Instrumental Music) are all immensely proud of these student performers. There was raucous celebration and encouragement for these students from the audience, acknowledging their growth in musicianship and the confidence and courage it takes to perform. The roof nearly lifted off when all 25 students buzzed on their mouthpieces to Hot Cross Buns in time for Easter!
Congratulations to all our performers from Wednesday night.
Spotlight on Wellbeing
As we approach the school holidays, it's important to remind ourselves of the value of rest, relaxation and personal wellbeing for both students and their families. The break from the usual school routine provides a much-needed pause—an opportunity to recharge, reset, and reconnect. After a busy term filled with learning, stepping back can have a powerful impact on mental, emotional, and physical health.
This time away allows families to slow down and be more present with one another. Whether it’s sharing meals, enjoying outdoor adventures, or simply having unhurried conversations, these moments help strengthen relationships and create lasting memories. Encouraging children to maintain a balance of rest and activity during the holidays can also support their overall wellbeing and help them return to school feeling refreshed and ready to learn.
For those looking for fun and enriching ways to spend the holidays, the Geelong region offers a wide variety of activities for students of all ages. From exploring beautiful coastal walks and local parks, to visiting museums, libraries, and community events, there are plenty of opportunities to stay active, curious, and engaged. Families might enjoy a day at the waterfront, a trip to nearby nature reserves, or participating in holiday programs designed to inspire creativity and learning in a relaxed environment.
No matter how you choose to spend the break, we encourage all families to take the time to unwind, prioritise wellbeing, and make the most of this special time together.
The Wellbeing Team wishes all families have a wonderful and blessed Easter with one another.
