From the Executive Principal
As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to sincerely thank our families for your ongoing support, partnership and trust. Together, we have shared a term filled with learning, growth and care for our students. Your encouragement at home, engagement with school life and ongoing collaboration with our staff make a meaningful difference to the wellbeing and success of every child. Our staff have also worked with great dedication and professionalism this term, and we are grateful for the way our whole community continues to work together with a shared commitment to excellence, care and service.
Over the recent weeks it has been wonderful to see the many signs and celebrations of Easter across our campuses. Our students have joyfully participated in Easter bonnet parades, Easter services and classroom activities that have helped bring this important season to life. We have also been proud of the way our students have reached beyond the school gates, visiting local businesses to share Easter cards and Easter eggs as a way of blessing and thanking those in our wider community. These moments reflect our Christian values in action, sharing hope, kindness and generosity, and providing meaningful opportunities for students to live out their faith.
As we enter the Easter holidays, we are reminded of the true heart of Easter: the hope found in Christ’s sacrificial love, His death and resurrection, and the promise of new life. It is a message of grace, renewal and hope that sits at the centre of who we are as a Christian community. We wish all our families a safe, joyful and refreshing holiday break. We hope this time together provides opportunities to rest, reconnect and enjoy special moments with loved ones
I would also like to acknowledge the many staff members who continue working behind the scenes during the holidays. Their ongoing commitment ensures our school continues to run smoothly, and their efforts are deeply appreciated.
Apart from Easter celebrations and sports carnivals, this week I also had the pleasure of attending the Top Class Music and Sound 2026 Showcase in Melbourne as part of the VCE Season of Excellence, alongside our Year 10, 11 and 12 music students. We are incredibly proud of Year 12 student Felix, who was selected as one of only a small number of students from across the state to perform at this event. This is a significant achievement and a wonderful recognition of Felix’s talent, dedication and hard work, as well as the guidance of his music teachers. Please join me in congratulating Felix on an outstanding performance.
Thank you once again for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to welcoming students back for Term 2 on Tuesday April 21.
From the Head of Campus
It has been a joy and privilege to journey alongside you during Term 1 of 2026. On behalf of the Junior School staff, I sincerely thank you for your ongoing support and trust. Term 1 is a vital time for establishing strong relationships between students, staff, and families, and I encourage you to remain in regular contact with staff, particularly your child’s homeroom teacher as we work together to support each child throughout the year.
As we reflect on the term, our Junior School community has enjoyed many exciting opportunities to come together and celebrate learning. These have included the Leaders Induction Service held at Middle School-Highton, Shrove Tuesday celebrations, our Welcome Picnic, Open Day, the Discovery Learning program, House Swimming and Athletics carnivals, Prep Alphabet Day, and the Year 4 You Yangs excursion. Additional highlights included parent information sessions on Literacy, Numeracy, and digital device safety, the Year 4 swimming program at the Middle School Sports and Aquatic Centre, Silly Sock Day in support of Our Village (Geelong Mums), the Prep Flying Bookworm fairy tales incursion, Project Care fundraising in support of Yellow Door, mathematics competitions, lunchtime and Year 2 strings and music concerts, Harmony Day celebrations, Year 1 Old World Day, and the inaugural Greening of the Gates initiative. All of these events have taken place alongside the rich and varied learning experiences our students engage in every day.
Today we had the absolute joy of concluding the term with our spectacular Junior School Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Service. We were delighted to be joined by Williams House Kindergarten and a very special hoppy visitor! As we move into the Term 1 break, I would like to wish you all a safe, healthy, and blessed Easter. May this season be filled with joy and hope, as reflected in the following words of Scripture:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a wonderful Term Two on Tuesday 21st April.

Easter Reflections at Junior School
This week, we have been celebrating Holy Week as we reached the end of our Lenten journey toward Easter. Our staff and students gathered for the Greening of the Cross and Greening of the Gates services, where we reflected on and celebrated the great love of God. Through this love, the gates have been opened for us to know, receive, and experience new life. On Thursday, our families and wider community also joined us in celebrating Easter and adding more greenery to our gates, a wonderful expression of shared joy and faith.
Our Easter Bonnet Parade was a joyful and vibrant celebration. Students walked proudly around the front roundabout wearing their bonnets, bringing laughter, colour, and happiness. It was heartwarming to see our students take part in a tradition that has been celebrated for many years, marking the end of Lent and the renewal and new life we have because of Easter.
We ended the term with our Easter Service for students and staff, continuing to celebrate Jesus and reflect on the true meaning of Easter.
Our journey of Lent at Junior School has been a special and meaningful time for all of us. My prayer for our entire Junior School family and community is that our hearts and homes would be filled with God’s love, joy, hope, and peace as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ with our families. May we know and experience the amazing love that God has for us.
Enjoy the well-earned and well-deserved break. May it be restful and filled with the things that bring refreshment and joy to your lives.
Easter Blessings,
Junior School House Cross Country
Last Friday, our Junior School students participated in the House Cross Country event, held on campus in very windy conditions. The students are to be commended for the resilience and determination they showed throughout the day.
Our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students completed a 1km loop around the school, while students in Years 3 and 4 completed two laps. This event also served as a selection race for our Deakin District Cross Country team.
It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents lining the course, offering loud cheers and encouragement—not only for their own children, but for all participants.
The morning concluded with a medal ceremony, where our top finishers were celebrated and every student was recognised for their effort, perseverance and achievement in completing the course.
A huge thank you to our Sports Department, led by Matt Murnane, and supported by Olivia Cameron, Edwina Noorgard and Carl Hillier, for organising such a successful event. We also greatly appreciated the efforts of Paige M., who assisted with the running events, and Leonard Burrow, who entertained students and families with music throughout the morning. Thank you also to our Junior School staff for their support and assistance on the day.
Congratulations to our fastest runners on campus: Mylah H. for the girls and Buster F. for the boys. Well, done to Flynn for being the winning house on the day, followed by Burrows, Penman and Taylor.
A fantastic day of participation, encouragement and community spirit—well done to all involved!
Project Care Stall
After weeks of planning, designing, and creating, the Year 4 Project Care Stall was a great success on Monday, raising $444.15 in total. Excited shoppers visited the Chapel to purchase handmade items and honey joys, all in support of The Yellow Door. Congratulations to all students involved in the project, and thank you to our Junior School families for your wonderful support of the stall.
Alphabet Day Celebration in Prep
This term has been a big one for our Prep students as they have worked incredibly hard to learn all the letters of the alphabet. From recognising letter names and sounds, to forming them correctly and using them in words, sentences, and their early readers – it has been such a joy to watch their confidence and love of literacy grow.
To celebrate this exciting milestone, we held a very special Alphabet Day!
The Prep students came to school dressed as something beginning with a letter of the alphabet, and the creativity was amazing. The students wore some fabulous outfits, each representing a letter they have learned.
Throughout the day, we took part in fun, hands-on activities that celebrated our knowledge of letters and sounds. Students enjoyed sharing their costumes, practising their letter recognition, and continuing to build their skills in reading and writing in a playful and engaging way.
We are so proud of the effort each student has put into learning their alphabet this term.
Alphabet Day was a wonderful way to celebrate their hard work, growth, and love of learning!
The Wonders of Australia
This term, our Year 2 students have been learning about the states and territories of Australia. Throughout the unit, students explored the different features of each state and territory, including their size, population, and unique characteristics.
To support their understanding, students used a variety of materials and hands-on activities to compare the sizes and populations of each state and territory. They also investigated the native animals found in different regions across Australia, discovering how environments can influence the types of animals that live there.
To showcase their learning, students created informative posters on a state or territory of their choice. These posters highlighted key facts, interesting information, and examples of native wildlife. It has been wonderful to see students take pride in their work and share their knowledge with others.
We are very proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown throughout this unit!
Year 3 Explore The Velveteen Rabbit
A Journey Into Friendship, Imagination, and What it Means to be “Real”
This term, our Year 3 students have been examining the timeless classic The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams—a heartwarming story over 100 years old, that has sparked rich discussion, deep thinking, and plenty of creativity in the classroom.
As students followed the journey of the little toy rabbit who longs to become “Real,” they explored powerful themes such as belonging, kindness, and the transformative nature of love. Through reading sessions, the children unpacked the characters’ emotions, motivations, and relationships, discovering how stories can help us reflect on our own experiences.
To deepen their understanding, students engaged in a range of creative literacy activities. Many students enjoyed discussing the idea that being “Real” has nothing to do with appearance and everything to do with being loved and valued. The students wrote their own narrative using the perspective of the Skin Horse or the Velveteen Rabbit and explored using Tier 2 words in their vocabulary to create a story that is detailed, creative and used imagery to connect with the reader. Some students were able to up-level their writing by the use of similes, appositives and more complex sentences. Wow!
To finish off the unit, we had a Toy Day where the students made their own toy rabbit, did some rabbit crafts and watched the movie Toy Story 2. The students were able to make some great connections between the literature study and the themes in the movie of love and how it feels to belong.
Well done Year 3 students!
Year 4 Convict Think Bubbles
During our IDL unit Our Australian Heritage, we have been exploring life in early colonial Australia. Students completed a task where they drew a convict and added “think bubbles” to show what their character might have been feeling and experiencing.
Students considered the harsh living conditions, the challenges of daily life, and what it would have been like to be so far from home. Many reflected on feelings of loneliness, fear, and uncertainty, while others explored moments of hope and resilience. They also thought carefully about arriving in a new and unfamiliar land, as well as the impact of colonisation on First Nations peoples.
This task encouraged students to build empathy and deepen their understanding of Australia’s history by imagining it from a different perspective. The students in Year 4B were particularly interested to discover that children as young as 7 or 8 could be convicts and were often put to work!
Year 4 Make Waves in the Year 4 Swimming Program
Our Year 4 students have just completed their five-week swimming program at the Middle School Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Once again, we had great support from the Geelong Swimming Club who organised for the program to be run by the teachers from their Learn To Swim program. Students were placed in groups according to their ability and skill level and were able to continue developing their swimming skills.
The students should be commended on the way they embraced the program by being organised for each session and participating to the best of their ability.
If you would like to find out more information about LTS lessons, please visit their website – www.geelongsclts.org.au or you can email the swim school – info@geelongsclts.org.au.
Hot Cross Buns to Handel!
This week 25 young musicians from all five campuses of the Christian College Music Program gathered in the RW Gibson Music Performance Centre (Senior Campus) to showcase their talent and hard work at the Cross-Campus Brass Evening. Families and friends enjoyed a celebration of sound from instruments high and low including the Tuba, Euphonium, Trombone, French Horn and Trumpet.
Brass students ranging from Prep to Year 12 performed solos and duets accompanied by Regina Thomae, Tammy Treloar and Brad Treloar. Their repertoire featured music from AMEB Preliminary to Grade 8 and VCE Music Unit 4 (beginner to advanced level), highlighting the breadth of tuition available from the talented brass staff at CCG. Currently 62 students are learning a brass instrument in CCG’s Instrumental Music Program.
Our brass teachers Sean Rankin, Rob Moffatt and Andrew Dunlop (Director of Instrumental Music) are all immensely proud of these student performers. There was raucous celebration and encouragement for these students from the audience, acknowledging their growth in musicianship and the confidence and courage it takes to perform. The roof nearly lifted off when all 25 students buzzed on their mouthpieces to Hot Cross Buns in time for Easter!
Congratulations to all our performers from Wednesday night.
Spotlight on Wellbeing
As we approach the school holidays, it's important to remind ourselves of the value of rest, relaxation and personal wellbeing for both students and their families. The break from the usual school routine provides a much-needed pause—an opportunity to recharge, reset, and reconnect. After a busy term filled with learning, stepping back can have a powerful impact on mental, emotional, and physical health.
This time away allows families to slow down and be more present with one another. Whether it’s sharing meals, enjoying outdoor adventures, or simply having unhurried conversations, these moments help strengthen relationships and create lasting memories. Encouraging children to maintain a balance of rest and activity during the holidays can also support their overall wellbeing and help them return to school feeling refreshed and ready to learn.
For those looking for fun and enriching ways to spend the holidays, the Geelong region offers a wide variety of activities for students of all ages. From exploring beautiful coastal walks and local parks, to visiting museums, libraries, and community events, there are plenty of opportunities to stay active, curious, and engaged. Families might enjoy a day at the waterfront, a trip to nearby nature reserves, or participating in holiday programs designed to inspire creativity and learning in a relaxed environment.
No matter how you choose to spend the break, we encourage all families to take the time to unwind, prioritise wellbeing, and make the most of this special time together.
The Wellbeing Team wishes all families have a wonderful and blessed Easter with one another.
