From the Executive Principal
Over the past two weeks, I had the privilege of stepping back into the classroom, teaching senior secondary students, as I provided cover for a teacher on Long Service Leave. As you may know, I visit classrooms across our College community every week, yet taking this opportunity to spend longer periods of time with a few classes of students was a real joy. It reminded me just how powerful and important the work of teaching truly is. While my recent time has been spent with our older students, the experience reaffirmed something that is true across every year level in our K–12 context: at the heart of all we do is a shared purpose - supporting young people to grow, learn, and thrive.
Over my time in education, I have had the privilege of teaching students across the full P–12 age range, and into their university years. (The only age I haven’t taught yet is Kindergarten, and I have such admiration for our amazing Kindergarten educators). There is a special kind of joy that lives in classrooms at every stage of learning. In senior years, it appears in thoughtful discussions, growing independence, and moments of deep insight. In earlier years, it is seen in curiosity, wonder, and the excitement of discovering something new for the first time. These moments may look different across the College, but they are equally meaningful as they happen every day.
Teaching is about far more than lessons and learning outcomes; it is about relationships. Teachers take the time to know each child - their strengths, interests, and challenges - and to create environments where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and learn from mistakes. This sense of belonging and trust is essential for both wellbeing and academic success, from our youngest learners through to our graduating students.
What stood out to me most during my time in the classroom was the trust students place in their teachers. Each day, your children arrive ready to learn, supported by educators who care deeply about them, not just as students, but as individuals. Across our school, teachers work hard to ensure every child feels seen, valued, and encouraged at their stage of learning.
As parents and families, you entrust us with an incredibly important role, and we take that responsibility seriously. We want to make sure that every young person is known, challenged, and inspired. Our aim is not only to teach knowledge and skills, but to help shape confident, resilient, and compassionate young people who are prepared for life beyond school. Stepping back into the classroom reminded me that the joy of teaching is ultimately about the joy of seeing young people grow. What a privilege!
Welcome Back to Term 2
As we settle into Term 2, I would like to warmly welcome our students and families back to campus. I hope everyone enjoyed a restful Easter break and had the opportunity to recharge for what promises to be another rich and rewarding term of learning and growth.
I want to begin by acknowledging and commending the students who proudly represented our campus at the Drysdale ANZAC Service. Their respectful participation, commitment and conduct reflected great credit to themselves, their families and our school community. We are incredibly proud of the way our students honoured such an important service of remembrance, demonstrating empathy, respect and a deep understanding of the significance of ANZAC Day.
It has also been wonderful to welcome our Year 9 students back to campus following their Rural and Transformation Studies programs. These experiences provide such valuable opportunities for students to step outside their comfort zones, build independence and develop a stronger sense of responsibility and teamwork. The growth we have seen in our Year 9s, as learners and as young people, since their return has been a joy to witness.
Term 2 is an exciting time across the campus, with many opportunities for students to continue learning, growing and challenging themselves, both inside and beyond the classroom. We look forward to seeing curiosity, creativity and perseverance thrive across all year levels as students engage with the term ahead.
We are also very proud of our Year 5 and 6 debating team as they prepare for their upcoming competitions. Debating supports confidence, critical thinking and collaboration, and we are excited to see our students develop these skills and represent our campus with pride.
Finally, I encourage families to join us at our Discover Year 7 and Beyond Information Evening, and to please share this opportunity with friends who may be considering our school. We also look forward to welcoming prospective families to our upcoming Discover Prep session, where we will showcase the wonderful learning environment we offer our youngest learners.
Thank you for your continued support as we embark on another exciting term together.

Thank a First Responder Day – 10 June 2026
Our campus is proud to be supporting Thank a First Responder Day on Wednesday 10 June 2026, a day dedicated to recognising and appreciating the vital role first responders play in keeping our community safe.
First responders, including paramedics, firefighters, police officers, SES volunteers and other emergency workers, are often the first on the scene during emergencies. They show courage, compassion and commitment as they help others, often in challenging and unpredictable situations. Supporting this day gives our students an opportunity to learn about gratitude, community service and the importance of looking after one another.
As part of Thank a First Responder Day, students are invited to take part in an art competition. Students can create an artwork that says “thank you” or shows appreciation for first responders and the work they do. This might include drawings, paintings or other creative pieces that reflect kindness, bravery and community spirit. Selected artworks may be shared as part of our celebration and recognition of first responders.
The art competition is open to students across all year levels, and participation is encouraged as a way for students to express their thanks in a creative and meaningful way.
You can see in the photos accompanying this piece that some of our Year 6 students are already busy working on their entries!
We will be sharing more details about Thank a First Responder Day in coming weeks.
We look forward to coming together as a school community to show our appreciation and say a heartfelt thank you to those who help keep us safe every day.
Drysdale RSL ANZAC Service
Christian College Bellarine was proud to be part of the Drysdale RSL ANZAC service, a meaningful and memorable occasion that brought together strong participation from both the school and wider community. Both the Junior and Middle School Choirs performed beautifully, leading the crowd in the Australian National Anthem and God Defend New Zealand.
Our Campus Captains, Elodie and Caden, laid wreaths with great respect, while student representatives from Prep through to Year 9 marched proudly alongside members of the local community. Students demonstrated outstanding respect throughout the service, reflecting the significance of the occasion.
We were especially honoured to have Jack, the 101-year-old grandfather of one of our students, Clancy, in attendance. Jack is a World War II veteran who served in the Air Force, and his presence made the event even more special.
We were honoured to be included in this important community event and are incredibly proud of our students for the way they displayed our College values throughout.
Prep Discovery Learning
On April 29, the Preps visited Portarlington. They started at the footy ground and went on a walk along the beach. Everyone searched for one shell or rock that they liked the best. Making a choice of which item was the best was very hard to do.
Later, the Preps relaxed at the big playground and enjoyed some cooperative play time. Everyone took turns to share the playground. Well done everyone on another fun day.
Winter Carnival 2026
On Thursday this week, Year 5 and 6 students from the Bellarine Campus travelled to Geelong College, Kardinia Park and Elderslie Reserve to participate in the Deakin District Winter Carnival, competing in Football, Netball, Soccer and Tee Ball.
With the sun shining, students enjoyed another fantastic day of sport. It was wonderful to see them not only continue to develop their skills throughout the day, but also strengthen friendships and connections with one another. All teams embraced the competitive environment, displaying excellent effort, enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Following the Winter Carnival, students will now participate in a five-week round robin competition in their selected sports. These matches will take place each Thursday afternoon during our sport time, beginning in Week 3. Students will compete against different schools within our division each week. Families are reminded that there will be no lunch orders available on sport days, so students will need to bring their own food and drinks. A Compass event containing all relevant information will be sent home to families.

Year Six Canberra Camp Preparations
Our Year 6 students are eagerly preparing for their upcoming Canberra camp, proudly marked by the arrival of their new Year 6 Canberra jumpers last Friday, an exciting symbol of the journey ahead. This experience will deepen their understanding of Australia’s history, government and national identity. After a term of learning about Australia’s democracy and currently learning about key historical figures and the Federation of Australia, students are now ready to bring their knowledge to life by exploring the nation’s capital firsthand.
Canberra offers a unique chance for students to experience the heart of our country’s decision-making and to see the places where important national conversations and actions take place. From visiting significant landmarks to engaging in hands on learning experiences, this trip promises to be both educational and memorable.
Adding to the excitement, students have proudly received their new Canberra jumpers. More than just a practical item for the trip, the jumpers help create a sense of unity and shared anticipation as students prepare for this important learning experience. Wearing them with pride, students will represent our school as they take part in a variety of activities around Canberra and continue to build a broader understanding of Australia’s role as a democratic nation.
We look forward to seeing our Year 6 students embrace this journey with curiosity, openness and enthusiasm. Their time in Canberra will provide valuable opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, further developing their understanding of Australia’s democracy, history and national identity.
Choosing Kindness, Shaping Culture
On Wednesday, students in Years 1, 2, 5 and 7 participated in Choosing Kindness, Shaping Culture sessions. This was a combined wellbeing and faith initiative that invited students to intentionally set the tone for the term ahead by recognising the role each individual plays in shaping a positive school culture.
Students explored what culture looks like in everyday school life … how we speak to, and about, others, how our classrooms feel, and the attitudes and behaviours we choose… and that here at Christian College, kindness is a ‘must do.’ Students were reminded that while striving for excellence does not mean being perfect, it does mean bringing our best selves to both learning and relationships.
Through discussion, practical examples, and reflection, students considered how their responses are their responsibility … in person, in the playground, and online. They were encouraged to pause and ask: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it necessary? before speaking or acting. Students also explored the idea that kindness is not just about being nice, but about speaking truth with love (Ephesians 4:15) and the responsibility of choosing our next response.
Students were given an opportunity to understand the science of kindness … how kind actions positively impact social, emotional and mental health. Students learned that even small acts of kindness can reduce stress and build connection, creating a powerful chain reaction throughout the school community. They reflected on how actions, words and even thoughts shape the culture around them and were invited to start or continue chains of kindness.
Each session concluded with students contributing words that described the kind of classroom culture they want to help build, reinforcing that culture is something we all create together, every day.
The remaining year levels will take part in Choosing Kindness, Shaping Culture sessions when year level sessions are held next Wednesday.
We look forward to continuing to foster a culture of kindness, responsibility and excellence across the Bellarine campus.
Big Smiles at Recess
On Thursday during recess in the junior school area, students from Prep to Grade 4 came together to create an exciting volcano in the sandpit. Working collaboratively, they built up the structure and eagerly prepared for the eruption.
As part of the activity, we explored how vinegar and bi-carb react when combined, creating the bubbly “explosion” that brought the volcano to life. Students were curious and engaged, asking questions and sharing their ideas as they watched the reaction unfold.
Beyond the sandpit, students expressed their creativity through colourful chalk drawings and imaginative play with friends. It was a wonderful example of creativity, teamwork, and learning through play, and it was fantastic to see students collaborating across different year levels.
Science: Year 5 – 9 Opportunities
Science Talent Search (STS) is a great opportunity for students who enjoy being creative while exploring scientific ideas. This year, the school will be supporting entries in the creative writing, photography, and poster categories, and students may enter one category only. STS is a statewide competition run by the Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria and provides a chance to develop creativity, scientific thinking, and communication skills while gaining recognition beyond the classroom. For more information about the competition, categories, and examples of past entries, visit the Science Talent Search website.
Students interested in participating should email s.maye@ccg.vic.edu.au by 8th May to express their interest.
Year 9 Opportunity: Deakin Forensics Day
A small number of Year 9 students have the opportunity to attend Deakin University’s Forensics Day on Wednesday June 3. This experience will give students exposure to university science and potential STEM career pathways.
Places are very limited, and students interested in attending must complete a Google Form to express interest by Monday May 11. Year 9 students will have access to the Google form in their upcoming science lessons.
Families are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with their child and ensure the Google form is submitted by the deadline. Students will then be selected from the applicants.
I look forward to receiving expressions of interest for both competitions.

An Invitation to Space: The Final Frontier
Parents, students and friends are warmly invited to attend the Year 12 VCE Drama Ensemble performance: SPACE: THE FINAL FRONTIER
This original production explores a compelling question: Why do humans want to leave Earth — to save humanity, or to escape responsibility for our planet?
As part of their VCE Drama Ensemble task, students have collaboratively researched, devised, scripted, rehearsed and performed this unique work.
In developing the performance, they have applied key drama elements including transformation of time, place and character; expressive and performance skills; and the use of symbol and theatrical styles such as Epic Theatre. These approaches allow students to move beyond realistic representation and create dynamic, thought-provoking theatre.
The performance investigates powerful contemporary ideas, including:
- Whether space technologies can help address challenges on Earth, or divert resources from urgent human needs
- How viewing Earth from space influences our responsibility toward the planet—and why action does not always follow awareness
- Whether humanity’s future lies in protecting Earth, escaping it, or rebuilding elsewhere—and who gets to decide
It promises to be an inspiring evening of theatre-making, creativity and big ideas. We hope you can join us for this special event.
